AB Lime is focused on providing our customers with accurate and appropriate knowledge about the soil that supports their business. We believe that without a good understanding of what is going on under your feet, it is impossible to determine with confidence what you need to keep your farming business growing and profitable.
There is an increasing, an almost overwhelming number of fertiliser options out in the market place these days with all claiming to be what your farm needs.
Whether soils become acidic depends a lot on their initial pH and their buffering capacity. Buffer capacity is the soils ability to resist change in pH.
There is a lot of information out there about what pH you should have your soil. And a lot of that information comes from fertiliser companies. Fertiliser companies sell fertiliser. They specialise in soil fertility, not soil acidity. They can and do set optimum ranges for soil pH to reflect their understanding of soil pH, which is not something they are specialised in.
A new report has found New Zealand is losing 192 million tonnes of soil every year from erosion with 44 percent of soil losses came from pasture land. This is equivalent to 84 million tonnes of soil lost each year.
